Help your fresh-cut flowers Last longer!
There are several things you can do to help keep your flowers alive:
1. It is very helpful to trim the stems every few days, and replace the water. Keeping the water fresh and clean is the best way to prolong the life of your flowers, as bacteria is harmful to the blooms. Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle to allow them to absorb more water.
2. Everything has a season, and there will be a time when some of your blooms fade. Some flower varieties last longer than other flower varieties. To continue to enjoy your flowers, remove the older flowers from the vase. Older blooms could produce bacteria, but this mostly just keeps the arrangement looking nice.
3. Where you place your flower arrangement can greatly effect the longevity of the blooms. Keep your flowers in a shaded, cool area. Avoid heat and direct sunlight.
4. Keep your flowers away from fruit. This is for all flowers, but especially important to remember with wearable flowers which are stored in the refrigerator. Fruit and vegetables produce ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to wilt.
5. Wearable flowers such as corsages and boutonnières should be refrigerated until use.
